Nagvasuki Temple is located in the Daraganj suburb in the city of Allahabad. And lies on the banks of holy River Ganga. This temple is a good example of a classical medieval. As it is believed that a temple during the 10th century was present where now stands Nagvasuki shrine. Though the Nagvasuki temple is said to be built in the 18th century. This ancient temple has also been mentioned in various Puranas.

Nag Vasuki Temple is dedicated to Lord Vasuki, who was the king of serpents. This temple is one of the two temples where people can be liberated from the Kaal Sarp Dosh. Kaal Sarp Dosh is considered as a serious problem in one’s horoscope. According to Hindu astrology when all seven planets are surrounded between Rahu and Ketu Kaal Sarp Dosh is formed. Hindus consider this as a sign of bad news.

Nag Vasuki, the lord of Naags was very dear to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva used to acknowledge him as his most dedicated devotee. And it is also believed that Lord Vasuki is carrying the burden of the world on his shoulders.

Deities Presiding In Nagvasuki Temple

As I have already mentioned that this temple is dedicated to Lord Vasuki, henceforth idol of Nag Vasuki is the main idol and is located in the center of the temple. There are many other deities presiding n this temple. A large idol in reclined position of Bhismapita is also seen near the temple. Nag Vasuki Tempe also consists of the deities of Lord Ganesh and Mata Parvati. A shrine of the supreme Lord Shiva is also seen on the premises of the temple.

Naag Panchmi Celebration

The name of the temple itself suggests that this temple is famous for Naag Devta. Therefore the most famous festival that is celebrated here is Naag Panchmi. On the occasion of Naag Panchmi a fair is also conducted near the reclining idol of Bhismapita. Hindus on Naag Panchmi visit this temple to worship the presiding deity. And also serve milk to the serpents present there. They consider this as a good deed.
